What is EPO exam?
The European qualifying examination (EQE) tests candidates’ knowledge and aptitude to represent applicants in EPO proceedings. Established in 1979, it is widely regarded as one of the most demanding professional examinations having been passed by more than 10 000 candidates already.
How do I check the status of my European patent?
Legal status information can also be accessed via the “Latest legal events” tab in Espacenet. This information is based on data the EPO receives from the national patent offices. For more information you can also contact the EPO direct at [email protected].
What is an EPO application?
A European patent is, in essence, a single patent application that simultaneously covers many European states during the examination process. The European Patent Office (“EPO”) administers and grants European patents in accordance with the European Patent Convention (“EPC”).
What is Extended European Search Report?
An Extended European Search Report will consist of the usual search report plus an opinion as to whether the application, and the invention to which it relates, are patentable. How do I claim EPO?
An “independent” claim must state all the essential features of the invention. A European patent application may not contain more than one independent claim in the same category (e.g. product and/or process) unless one of the exceptions applies. See point 5.2. 010 for further information.
What are the three main criteria for patentability?
Patent applications must satisfy the following three criteria:
- Novelty. This means that your invention must not have been made public – not even by yourself – before the date of the application.
- Inventive step. This means that your product or process must be an inventive solution.
- Industrial applicability.
What is further processing EPO?
Further processing is the standard remedy whenever a deadline is missed during prosecution of a European patent application. The request must relate to a failed time limit arising in the course of prosecution of a patent application before the EPO. Actions before national offices are not covered by further processing.
What is EESR in patent?
The search report from the European Patent Office is accompanied by an opinion on the patent application and the invention. The combination of the European search report and the searcher’s opinion make up the extended European search Report (EESR).
