SLEDAI-2 K is a global index that generates a total score reflecting an overall disease activity but is capable of measuring disease activity in each of the nine organ systems if required.
What is Sledai 2K?
SLEDAI-2K was developed as a modification of SLEDAI in order to include persistent, active disease in those descriptors that had previously only considered new or recurrent occurrences. Specifically SLEDAI-2K allows persistent active disease in alopecia, mucous membrane ulcers, rash, and proteinuria to be scored.

How do you treat a SLE flare?
When the physician decides SLE is flaring there are several approaches that suppress flare; probably the quickest is to give an intramuscular dose of long-acting glucocorticoid, such as 40–80 mg of triamcinolone acetonide or 20–40 mg of methylprednisolone acetate, which usually suppresses flare and lasts 2–4 weeks.

Activity categories have been defined on the basis of SLEDAI scores: no activity (SLEDAI=0), mild activity (SLEDAI=1 to 5), moderate activity (SLEDAI=6 to 10), high activity (SLEDAI=11 to 19), and very high activity (SLEDAI≥20).
How do you read a Sledai?
A SLEDAI score greater than or equal to 3 points and a greater than or equal to 1-point increase in PGA (range 0-3) is considered mild/moderate flare. A SLEDAI score greater than or equal to 12 points, and a greater than or equal to 2.5-point increase in PGA is included for severe flare.
